Increasing bandwidth demands are driving networks to expand capacity and extend the capabilities of existing fiber and optical networks. But where are optical networks headed? In this presentation, Tim Doiron discusses the evolution of compact modular optical platforms. When combined with the latest 5th generation, 800G coherent DWDM optical engines and the emergence of a new generation of coherent DWDM pluggable optics that support both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connectivity, we can expand the network and reimagine its architecture.
