The South of France Was Hot for Infinera

The South of France is always hot in the summer, but this summer it was particularly hot for Infinera.

The co-located Next Generation Optical Networking (NGON) and Optical Data Centre Interconnect events in Nice were nice (couldn’t resist the pun). They not only brought together the traditional optical vendors and telecom operators but also the big three in data centers, Google, Microsoft and Facebook, which are presently among the top ten largest companies in the world in terms of market capitalization. At NGON Infinera was honored with the Next Generation Optical Networking and Optical DCI Award for Ultra Long-Haul Product of the Year for the XT-3300 meshponder.

Leading up to the NGON show, Infinera announced the general availability of the new Cloud Xpress 2, which delivers a colossal 1.2 terabits per second (Tb/s) of secure capacity in just one rack unit (1RU), with over 100 kilometers of unamplified reach. As such, the Cloud Xpress 2 is ideally suited to the data center rack-and-stack, plug-and-play way of doing things.

Just three weeks later, Infinera was at Subsea Connect 2017 in Marseille, one of the key landing stations for submarine cables in Europe. Without submarine cables there would be no worldwide internet. It’s also a hot market as DCI, or more saliently, the cloud, is driving subsea capacity increases of almost 50 percent year-over-year. Of course, the data center operators were there, as was Infinera’s Scott Jackson, Vice President, Subsea Business Group. Scott’s talk on “Powering Cloud Scale Subsea Networks” was very appropriate, as it covered how Infinera’s products can help subsea networks scale like data centers. Coincident with this event, Infinera announced that Telxius is providing on-demand, cloud scale services to its customers, enabled by Infinera’s DTN-X platform and Instant Bandwidth solution. Subsea Connect was also an ideal opportunity for Infinera to announce that its Infinite Capacity Engine (ICE4)-based XTS-3300 delivered industry-leading spectral efficiency on a live trans-Atlantic link.

No matter what the temperature, Infinera solutions are transforming subsea and DCI networks. For more information, contact us.
