Motor sports is about performance, reliability and a team that goes the extra mile to excel. It pushes the boundaries for innovation and technology advancement, enabling the automotive sector to find more sustainable methods to keep society on the move. The technology advances developed to thrill us in motor sports have an impact on the daily lives of consumers as companies commercialize them and take them to market, accelerating society’s shift to a sustainable motor transport infrastructure.
The same is true for the fast-moving optical communications industry, where optical engine innovation continues to push the limits of physics and deliver exponential increases in optical transport capacity to keep pace with unswerving demand growth.
On Sunday, June 10, 2018, these two innovation drivers came together. The streets of Zurich were electric as MySports streamed the first circuit race in motor sports in Switzerland in 64 years with the help of an Infinera Cloud Xpress optical transport solution.
To ensure seamless broadcast delivery for this world-class sporting event, MySports needed to quickly create a reliable, high-capacity communications infrastructure connecting the center of Zurich with the MySports studio in Erlenbach, Switzerland, a distance of under 20 kilometers (km). The team turned to Infinera to deliver a turnkey solution using the Infinera Cloud Xpress CX-100E over available dark fiber to deliver 100 gigabits per second (100G) of capacity. Using the Cloud Xpress solution, MySports successfully delivered 12 hours of live broadcast, simulcast in German and French across multiple channels, reaching around 600,000 viewers throughout the day.
The Cloud Xpress proved ideal for this requirement, with its unmatched combination of capacity and simplicity in a single compact, easy-to-install optical networking platform. The Cloud Xpress Family of platforms delivers point-to-point, plug-and-play capacity up to 1.2 terabits per second over 130 km.
“With Infinera we were in a safe pair of hands.” said Claus Beck, Director Production, MySports. “The Infinera Experience was second to none – flexible, transparent and approachable. The deployment was fully managed by Infinera from end to end; we just had to open the door! The equipment was turned up and tested within a day with preconfigured redundancy onsite. We experienced no issues with the services throughout the event. Infinera really did drive and deliver reliability for the live broadcast for this major event in Zurich.”
Like a great racing team, Infinera went the extra mile with Cloud Xpress to deliver performance, reliability and ultimately a successful finish for MySports.
