ICE7 Optical Engine

Taking Wavelength Capacity-Reach to the Next Level

ICE7, Infinera’s seventh-generation embedded optical engine, leverages a 5-nm CMOS DSP and Infinera’s vertically integrated indium phosphide (InP)-based TROSA, the ICTR140, to deliver baud rates of up to 148 Gbaud. In addition to enabling single wavelengths of 1.2 Tb/s, it also enables improved wavelength capacity-reach at lower data rates including 800 Gb/s, 600 Gb/s, and 400 Gb/s. This improved capacity-reach significantly reduces the cost per bit, power consumption, and footprint of coherent optical transport. ICE7 will be available in Xponder sleds for the GX Series compact modular platforms.

Scale wavelength speeds to 1.2 Tb/s

Leveraging PCS-64QAM modulation and baud rates of up to 148 Gbaud, ICE7 can deliver a single wavelength carrying 1.2 Tb/s of data. This enables significant savings on cost per bit and power in metro data center interconnect applications.

Deliver 800G nearly everywhere

Higher baud rates and industry-leading TROSA technology are key to delivering improved wavelength capacity-reach. With baud rates of up to 148 Gbaud and superior TROSA performance, ICE7 enables 800 Gb/s wavelength reach of up to 3,000 km, cost-per-bit reductions of up to 30%, and power-per-bit reductions of up to 60%.

Carry close to 100 Tb/s on a single fiber pair

In addition to high spectral efficiency enabled by PCS-64QAM, ICE7 supports the Super C- and Super L-bands, providing a 25% increase in total usable spectrum (from 9.6 THz to 12 THz). This enables close to 100 Tb/s on a single fiber pair.

Superior performance with a vertically integrated InP TROSA

In addition to a 5-nm CMOS DSP, ICE7 leverages Infinera’s InP-based TROSA, the vertically integrated ICTR140. ICE7 benefits from the superior modulation performance of InP and the cost, power, and reliability benefits of monolithic photonic integration.
