Warming Our Hearts by Helping Others

By Lisa Cianciarulo

During January, Infinera held a One Warm Coat and clothing drive to benefit the Sacred Heart Community Service (Sacred Heart), one of the many community service projects organized by the Infinera Community Fund (ICF).

For the past few years, ICF has held a coat and clothing drive during the month of January, out of the belief that is a great way to kick off the new year.  Once again this year, Infinera employees rose to the occasion to support Infinera’s largest coat and clothing collection to date: 50 large bags of gently worn coats and clothes that will go into the hands of those in our community that are in need.

On February 9, members of the ICF team loaded the donations into two large trucks and delivered them to Sacred Heart.  Sacred Heart is dedicated to bringing our community together to address poverty in Silicon Valley. Those running the nonprofit organization were very appreciative of Infinera’s efforts, as winter coat and clothing donations typically drop dramatically after the holiday season. In addition to the clothing, we were proud to provide the organization with approximately 150 coats, which went to Sacred Heart’s in-house Clothes Closet to help those most in need stay warm during these chilly days and nights.

On behalf of ICF, I would like to thank all the Infinera employees who helped our neighbors in need by supporting this drive!  We look forward to your support next year when we seek to break this year’s record by collecting and donating even more coats and clothing.

About Infinera Community Fund: In 2010, Infinera launched ICF, run by an all-employee volunteer team based out of our corporate headquarters in Sunnyvale, California. Each quarter, Infinera employees collaborate with a local charity to help men, women, and children in our surrounding neighborhoods. Through ICF, Infinera also supports local causes with regular employee-matching donations.  For more information on Infinera’s Community Fund, please click here.

About One Warm Coat: One Warm Coat has been supporting coat drives across the country for over 20 years.  The organization started in 1992 with a Thanksgiving weekend coat drive at one location in San Francisco.  Since then, it has grown to a national organization supporting over 3,000 coat drives each year.  One Warm Coat’s mission is to provide anyone in need with a warm coat, free of charge.  Its vision is that One Warm Coat will become a part of the American lifestyle; that when a coat is no longer needed, people will think of One Warm Coast and donate it; that donors will be warmed by the knowledge that their coats will go directly to men, women, and children in need. Louise BensonAbout Sacred Heart Community Service:  Louise Benson founded Sacred Heart Community Service in 1964 to feed hungry families in her neighborhood. Today, providing essential services to individuals and families in need remains one of Sacred Heart’s core strategies. The organization has also evolved into a respected and innovative provider of programs that assists families with achieving lifelong economic self-sufficiency and a grassroots organizing network that addresses the root causes and consequences of poverty.
