A More Sustainable, Socially Responsible, and Inclusive Infinera

As a global transport networking company, Infinera recognizes that we have influence in the communities and markets where we operate, and this inspires us to lead with bold and intentional socially responsible practices. Our company’s commitment to sustainability starts at the highest level. Executives and management teams collaborate to set sustainability goals and strategies, which are implemented by our Global Quality and Sustainability teams. Dedicated personnel throughout the company in departments including Environmental Health and Safety, Quality, and Human Resources are specifically trained to manage, monitor, and report on sustainability issues.

We recently released our 2019 Corporate Social Responsibility report, which documents our progress and achievements in corporate governance, environmental responsibility, and social responsibility. In 2018, we adopted a new framework for our materiality assessment by expanding our stakeholder engagement, including customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers, partners, and members of the community, and soliciting feedback on key issues.

This framework is compliant with both the 2018 Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and Sustainable Accounting Standards Board (SASB) guidelines, two of the leading global standards organizations for sustainability reporting. It allows us to survey our stakeholders using a comprehensive set of industry-aligned topics and elicit input that gives us valuable information on how to further strengthen our efforts to become a more inclusive, sustainable, and socially responsible company. Our updated material topics include the areas highlighted in the table below.

Our-Material-TopicsWe believe that working together in strong partnership is our best chance to make a difference, and as such we pay close attention to our customers’ sustainability initiatives and look for opportunities to support them. A key example of this is our 1.5°C promise. In 2019, one of our customers requested that we commit to the spirit of the Paris Agreement and its goal to keep the earth’s temperature below a 1.5˚ C increase from pre-industrial levels.

This ties into our three-year CSR roadmap, which we started in 2020. To meet our goal of a 1.5°C limit, we’re working to cut our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% within the next 10 years and are engaging with our suppliers to create a positive impact throughout our value chain. We look forward to sharing additional sustainability partnerships in the future.
