Research and Education (R&E) networks enable a wide variety of users to collaborate effectively over long distances. Researchers from educational and government institutions access experimental facilities, share high-performance computing (HPC) clusters and exchange huge data sets. Dynamic experiments, new collaborations, and intensive short-term computing requirements drive large fluctuations in bandwidth demand and traffic patterns. This requires very high-capacity metro optical transport that is simple to deploy and scale, while meeting the space and power constraints of any data center environment. Infinera Intelligent Transport Networks are proving to be a very good fit for these requirements, and a key enabler for R&E networking.
