The Digital Optical Network redefines optical transport

IQ Network Operating System

Embedded software intelligence

While Infinera's PIC technology make the Digital Optical Network possible, IQ's embedded software intelligence unlocks the network's true potential and enables scalable operational efficiencies. Embedded software intelligence (ESI) is a blanket term for the software technologies and protocols that run over the network hardware. These include Generalised Multi Protocol Label Switiching (GMPLS) and its associated protocols, and the software elements of the ITU Optical Transport Network (OTN).

IQ Bandwidth Management

IQ Bandwidth Management enables flexible capacity management features afforded by full digital access to all network capacity, supporting advanced features such as switching, grooming, multiplexing, and performance management. Wavelength and sub-wavelength bandwidth management are supported at each digital site, facilitating optimal capacity utilization for each wavelength and access to any sub-wavelength timeslot. IQ Bandwidth Management allows you to deploy any service to any site, and carry that service across any wavelength or group of wavelengths. IQ Bandwidth Management can also be used in a wide range of 1-way (terminal), 2-way (ring), 3-way and 4-way junction topologies.

IQ Network Automation

IQ Network Automation reduces overall operational expenses by simplifying lifecycle management from initial system commissioning and turn-up through subsequent network evolution phases, including capacity expansion and network topology evolution. The embedded intelligent GMPLS control plane automatically distributes digital management information throughout the network, automating otherwise complex and time-consuming OAM&P tasks, including provisioning, configuration, and fault management. Dynamic auto-discovery of network topology, coupled with automated optical data plane optimization, ensures no-touch operations for faster deployments and reduced time-to-service. In addition, the DON architecture ensures that in-service changes or additions can be accomplished without complex optical engineering.

IQ Network Automation speeds circuit provisioning in the digital optical network through the GMPLS control plane, allowing rapid, dynamic circuit turn-up without dependency on external management applications. Automated route computation with constraint-based routing options and traffic engineering is combined with robust GMPLS signaling to help you streamline service provisioning.

With IQ Network Automation, your network can easily expand or evolve to different topologies, including ring and mesh, as the business need arises, without reengineering any of the pre-existing deployed network or disruption of existing services, and without being subjected to any distance or capacity tradeoffs. Incremental links between nodes, as well as new capacity on existing links, are automatically discovered by the rest of the digital optical network.

IQ Digital Wrapper

IQ Digital Wrapper enables you to deploy digitally manageable wavelength and sub-wavelength services in the digital optical network. The flexible digital wrapping preserves 100% transparency for 1G, 2.5G, 10G, 40G and 100G services, while also providing rich digital manageability that simplifies maintenance and speeds fault isolation. IQ Digital Wrapper includes protocol-independent digital performance monitoring, remotely configurable loopbacks, and integrated PRBS test capabilities for advanced fault management. The combination of these features provides truly digital Performance Management capabilities that result in dramatic operational efficiencies when troubleshooting the network.

IQ Flexible Protection

IQ Flexible Protection is a suite of protection and restoration features that enable you to offer differentiated service types with carrier-class performance and to increase revenue generation opportunity. IQ Flexible Protection supports wavelength and sub-wavelength protection options at sub-50ms speeds, and functions independent of traffic type, including 1G, 2.5G, 10G, 40G and 100G services. With pervasive digital performance monitoring inherent in the Digital Optical Network, service recovery can be triggered by digital performance degradation as well as optical signal integrity.
